Keeping a clean and tidy home is something I take a lot of pride in. It’s something that has always been pretty important to me because I feel like the condition of your home is what gives you your energy towards other aspects of life, whether that is school, your job, your social life, etc. We spend so much time in our homes and so it being a calm and welcoming space is extremely important. I am a HUGE believer of routines and habits when it comes to keeping a well-kept home.
Now, I’ve seen some pretty detailed cleaning schedules online and they are a great way to keep up with all the tasks that need to be done around your home but those detailed schedules are not what I wanted to talk to you about today.
Today, I want to talk about a very simple house cleaning routine to follow WEEKLY to really see progress in your home and consistency. Remember, this is just ONE EXAMPLE of a weekly cleaning schedule to follow and I want you to feel free to change it according to your own life and lifestyle. But, before we dive into this weekly routine, I want to talk a little bit about having a solid MORNING routine.
Honestly, in my opinion, having a morning routine is what holds my house together, probably more than even the weekly routine. If I don’t follow my morning routine, things just seem to fall apart and eventually make the weekly routine fall apart as well. Trust me, though. My morning routine has become so drilled into my day, that it doesn’t even feel like I am following a routine anymore. It is just something I do. My family knows I do it. They do it with me. There is an understanding that it is simply part of the drill of “waking up” the house.
Okay, so what is part of my morning routine, you ask? It’s very simple to tell you the truth but it works. The first thing I do in the morning to wake up my house is open all of the curtains. Then, once everyone is awake, I make my bed and help my kids make their beds. Making beds in the morning is so important. It simply marks the start of the day and motivates me to continue on with the rest of my routine. Another task that’s part of my morning routine is washing and putting away all of the breakfast dishes. I don’t want all these dishes lingering into the lunch load and especially the dinner load. After everyone has gotten ready for the day, I like to do a quick pick up in the bathrooms. I always wipe the counters down and just make sure everything is in order and the last task is starting a load of laundry. Now, there are obviously more things I do in the morning but it just varies day by day. But, these are my typical tasks. Next, I will go onto my weekly task.
Everyday of the week I like to have one special chore that I do. This is what I call my weekly cleaning routine.
MONDAY – Clean bathrooms
TUESDAY – Declutter
WEDNESDAY – Dust surfaces
THURSDAY – Floors (sweep, vacuum, mop)
FRIDAY – Clean out fridge/pantry
SATURDAY – Meal plan
SUNDAY – Grocery shop
Now, I have these chores set up this way for a reason but of course your schedule might look different according to your own life. Monday I like to do the bathrooms so they are clean for the week ahead. If we have a gathering at our house it is usually on the weekend so Monday is a great day for me to go in and give them a good clean. Tuesdays I like to dedicate to decluttering and doing some sort of organizing because I try to run errands on Tuesdays before I pick up my kids from school. Swinging by the donation center is typically one of my errands so I like to do some extra decluttering beforehand. Wednesdays I dedicate to dusting furniture and other surfaces and I let the dirt just drop onto the floors because THURSDAYS I have dedicated to cleaning all my floors š Friday, I clean out my fridge and pantry so I know what I have on hand and can start writing out my grocery list and creating my meal plan for Saturday and then Sunday finally I will do a big grocery shop for the week.
Of course I don’t follow this weekly routine all the time, but I like having it because it at least gives me some sort of guideline to follow. I truly believe having some sort of guideline or routine to follow is everything! Let me know in the comments if you have a weekly cleaning routine or a morning routine. We always love hearing from you and I am always looking for new ways to improve my own routines š
