With spring in full force, that means that Spring Break is here or on its way!
My husband and I usually have to work, but we do like to do some fun things with our kids – maybe one or two days while they are off. So, it’s usually a “stay-cation” for us. We try to come up with creative activities that they normally don’t get to do during the school year.
I found a really great list of 20 things to do in Birmingham while looking for fun things to do this Spring Break. These activities could be for spring break fun or just random days you want to have a family adventure!
Below are a few of my favorites:
Birmingham Zoo: My Kiddos LOVE the zoo. It’s so much fun when the weather is great to get some walking in and to see all the animals they have. Even better, on Tuesday the admission is half price! If it’s warm enough, they also have a splash for the kids on those really hot days. They have a nice eating area to sit in the shade and enjoy lunch with the family.
Botanical Gardens: My daughter especially loves the gardens during the spring. All the new blooms and flowers are so beautiful. We always bring our camera for this adventure. The colors and smells are amazing during this time of year. Admission and parking is free!
The McWane Center: Another favorite for my kids. This is a super cool and fun way to learn different things about science. They have an Imax theatre that shows movies at different times and you can even do both the movie and adventures. They offer camps and show you how to do science experiments at home as well!
Oak Mountain State Park: This place is gorgeous! There is so much to do here with options for camping, fishing and hiking. During the summer, they also have a swimming area which is great to have after a hike during the summer. They have picnic areas and even offer golfing or horseback riding. They also have small cabins you can rent if you decide to make it a getaway.
Vulcan Park and Museum: If you are from the Birmingham area or not, this is a cool place to learn about how it came to be. You can go to the top of the Vulcan Statue to see all over the city. This year, they are offering walking tours to see the city and show off historical homes, restaurants and breweries in the area.
There are so many other exciting things you can do around town when you don’t have the time to get away. This list is just a few of the many things you can do around town and that are super affordable.
Do some researching and make a list of things you might want to do and let the family pull an idea out of the hat!
What are you doing this spring break??
